About Me

Hi! My name is Kelcie Miller-Anderson. I’m a twenty something living in Calgary, Canada. That’s right I willingly live in a place where it gets so cold it hurts your face. Despite this I love the snow and spending time in the mountains. And patiently wait for the fleeting few months of summer to come around.

I’d call myself your typical millennial except for the fact that absolutely I hate avocados. Yes even avocado toast. And forget long walks on the beach I much prefer long naps in my cozy bed. Beyond that I am a young scientist, social entrepreneur, and innovator who loves to spend my time developing natural solutions to environmental problems and working to inspire and support the next generation in creating change. I was lucky enough to start my first company at 21 and be recognized one of Canadas Top 20 Under 20.

Oh, and I am also chronically ill.

After years of declining health I was diagnosed with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome Type 3 and Mast Cell Activation Disorder in November 2017.  A few months later in July 2018 I was diagnosed with Mitochondrial Disease.

So why am I writing this blog? Well clearly I have too much time on my hands. In reality as much as I my illnesses might annoy me most days, I possess the unique ability to share my experience on living and attempting to thrive with several rare diseases.

This blog is about being a young person, and a young entrepreneur, living and traveling with disability, chronic illness, and rare disease.

My hope is that this blog can not only bring awareness about these rare disease but that it can be a resource for a wide audience on not only what it’s like to live with a chronic illness but more importantly so people can understand that having a chronic illness and disability doesn’t  define me or make me any less. It might complicate things and change the way I do things but I am determined to show the world that those of us with chronic illnesses and disabilities doesn’t mean I can’t still be a awesome social entrepreneur and scientist!
